You’re here for one of two reasons. One, You want to start a blog but aren’t sure of what to blog about (not knowing your niche) and/ or two, you simply wanna know why I started blogging. Either way, you’re at the right place. By reading the rest of this blog, you may find what you’re passionate about and start a successful blog and you’ll most definitely know why I started blogging.
Here’s a little story of why I started blogging. (I’ll go in-depth in my next post) I started blogging because I was depressed and wanted something to relax my mind. I went on Instagram one particular night and I saw a post with the caption “Click the link in my bio to read more” and I did. I clicked that link in her bio and I read all her blogs that very night. I loved it. I loved the interactions her blog posts got and her blog was fun, creative and relatable. A light bulb went off in my mind…I wanna do this too! where do I start? was my question and the rest is history!
I launched missknowalittle.com last year May (I have a birthday blog coming out soon) and I’ve learned a lot since then. I’ve done tons of research and watched a zillion (😂Jokin!) YouTube videos, no seriously though, I did my research guys. From blog/ colour palette layout to creating social media pages for my blog! whew😌. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Some bloggers that I’ve been following are full-time bloggers. They’ll tell you that money can be made but it takes dedication, hard work and research. With that being said, knowing what you’re passionate about is the key. I hate the idea of “finding one’s niche” because as my name suggests “missknowalittle”, it means I like blogging about any and everything I know; from blockchain, bitcoin and investments to fishing, following God, relationships, blogging and travel.
without further ado…
10 Reasons Why You Should Start Blogging
1| A Place To Call Your Own
It’s yours. It’s a place to be creative and inspire people with your writing. it’s a platform to motivate others to live in the now and do it gracefully. Writing is an art and the art of linguistics doesn’t get practised enough in today’s rush-rush world.
2| It Challenges Your Creativity
Blogging challenges your creativity in establishing a design for the site and graphics, a writing structure and content creation ideas. The more you write, the more your mind becomes intrigued. My mind has become more inquisitive than ever. I’m either researching ways to make better investment decisions, cryptocurrencies(Ripple, Bitcoin, Cardano, Stellar etc), business ideas or colleges for graduate studies. Honestly, for me, it has cracked open a part of me I never knew existed. I love blogging as a way to articulate my thoughts. Writing defines all those unfathomable thoughts spinning round in my head into solid, clearly-defined concepts.
3| It Makes You Appreciate the little things
“What do you mean? you may ask”. No one writes letters anymore, and this is the best I can do. Yes, I still send emails but for me, it’s just not the same as “snail-mail”. My mother had PenPals all over the world and I remembered how excited she’d get to open her letters. I appreciate the little things in life and I think the best thing about writing things down in diary or blog is when you look back at the writings and thoughts after years, then suddenly you realize that you’ve become such a better person than you were years before.
4| It Helps You To Meet New People Every Day
Blogging has allowed me to meet so many sweet, down-to-earth people in the last eight(8) months. I’m apart of a blogging group on Facebook and I get the privilege to interact with newbies (like myself) and veterans. And by “meet” people, I mean forming relationships that legitimately seek to serve one another. I feel genuine love for other bloggers that I follow. I read their entire blog post and leave a very nice comment “Always!”. The fact that it’s allowing me to meet others and understand that it’s a community and not a competition has been very satisfying. The blogging community is encouraging, fun and genuinely cheering for you to succeed.
5| Your Blog Could Inspire Others
There’s nothing more satisfying than receiving a comment on your blog post, FaceBook page, Instagram page, Twitter or DM. When I receive a comment it truly blesses my heart. When your readers interact with you, It’ll let you know that your readers are being impacted either positively or negatively. Blogging not only affects your life in a positive way, it also changes the life of your readers. Simply put, it is an act of giving.
6| Blogging Helps To Build Productivity While Making Money
You’re probably wondering why I took so long to talk about the monetary aspects of blogging. When I first decided to blog I wasn’t doing it for the money (I’m still not doing it for the money), I started it because I was completely and utterly depressed. I needed a safe haven. A place to share honestly and freely about what I know. It was after I got my blog up and running and posted 3-4 blogs that I was told to monetize it. Okay, calm down! What I’m making is nothing to write home about…BUT, its a full-time job for thousands of bloggers. With the right strategy, research and amazing content you could quit your (9-5) and make a comfortable living from it by means of; including ads on your page, reviewing products and services for companies, affiliate links from Amazon and other retail stores etc (I’ll make a blog about this. Stay tuned.)
(Disclaimer: I’m not telling anyone to quit their jobs and blog full-time. I’m merely sharing my opinion and first-hand experience. )
7| Blogging Gives You A Confident Boost
Okay, so this part gave me a little smile. Literally, every time before I post a blog, I’m like “Let me double check the grammar, oh wait…let me check the spelling too(pop open google and search for the pronunciation of choose and chose or is it optimise or optimize)” it’s honestly a rush for me everytime I’m supposed to post a blog. Blogging will help you create more faith in your life. You will soon realize that you do live an extraordinary life with an unusual or unique view and have something to contribute to others.
8| Blog Can Help To Grow Your Business
Does your company have a blog? If not, then you are missing a lot of it. Blogs can impart a lot of things about your company.
For example, your potential clients can read interesting stories about your company success, ideas, strategies and even new products that might turn them into regular paying customers. That’s a huge opportunity that lot a of small and big firms are not using.
Furthermore, companies who blog have 97% more inbound links (which means more traffic and visitors)
9| Blogging May Help You To Become An Expert At Something
Blogging allows you to develop your thoughts around a particular idea or topic. This will lead to learning more about that topic and networking with others in that field. If you are consistent in your approach you will find that, over time, you will learn quite a bit about that topic. This can build into a unique expertise, which can lead to new business and career opportunities.
10| Confront Your Fears
For some people, taking a side, having an opinion, and voicing that opinion online is simple, perhaps even natural. For me, it was, at first, a terrifying prospect. If you fall into the latter category, it can be empowering to overcome this fear. What is the worst thing that could happen by blogging? Someone disagreeing with your opinion? Pssh, Big deal. You can handle that. In fact, it’s a really good thing for your opinion to be challenged from time to time, as it causes you to analyze it to make sure it is sound.
I love my blog because it’s mine. It’s my little escape from my chaotic world. A place to be respectfully free, open, relatable and intentional.
If you have been thinking of starting a blog in 2018, I believe its time to stop procrastinating, get into action.
